Hi ladys and gents. I have been on the forum for a while but haven't been active in ages because I foolishly traded my hilux for a V8 ute. I'm please to say though that I picked up my new ride yesterday. A single cab BT50. So far I've added an ARB bullbar and Mazda snorkel and towbar. Future mods at this point are fit either my UH015SX or get an Icom 400 pro which I've wanted for a while, Get some spotlights, either IPF or Lightforce, Tires, not sure what ones yet. And when I get the time I'd like to make a slide on camper. And Fog lights. I know some people hate them but from my experiance they are great particularly when using high beams. High beems throw light a fair way ahead of the car but the fog lights are good to fill in the bit in front of the car so I can see the potholes and what not that tend to pop up.

one of the reasons for buying it was to tow the mud racer I'm building with my old man. once I've done a few races I can go up to the buggy or topgun class so I'll be looking at getting a hilux or similar and dad can run the other one.

This is just a little video of dad driving it up the street. There have been some ecu issues with it and we dont know if its gone into limp mode so he wanted to get it to shift into 2nd. As you can see in the video the street isnt very long and its made worse by the bit tires on the back.

Just checked out your Car 32 Vid from the Rocky Speedway. The green wingless Commodore in the clip is my mates......I use to go passenger with him when he had his Black and Orange Torana a couple of years ago

nah mate. the car 32 video isnt mine. For some reason my link isn't working for me. I'll have to have a go at fixing it.

edit. now its working for me. You may have noticed its running tractor tires front and rear, with the rears being made to go in tractors in rice fields so the lugs are huge, about 100mm long. We were supposed to be racing next weekend but with all the rain it might be too wet. I know sounds a bit funny being too wet for mud racing but if the track is too boggy the racing is shit because the cars wreck the track and people start getting bogged all the time and thats no fun to watch.

So is there any provision in this mud racing caper for 4x4's ?

There is but not so much your run of the mill 4x4, having said that one of the faster buggies is a hilux with a commodore v6. The only real requirements to race is all glass must be removed, minimum 4 pt roll cage, 4pt harness, window nets, fuel cell no bigger than 20L and emergency stops. And luggy tires.

There a 4 classes, Junior, Standard, Buggy and Top Gun.

If you look up Kabra mud sprints on you tube you will find plenty of videos of what its all about. We got into it thinking it would be cheaper than speedway to get into but its not as cheap as we first thought.

A quick update. I was rather disapointed with the standard high and low beam headlights so I put fog lights on the bullbar and got a factory combo stalk with the fog light switch to try and keep it as stock as possible inside the cab. I found that I had to shop around a bit for the stalk. Mazda wanted over $200 so I went to ford and got it for $100 and both wanted over $40 for the micro relay. I ended up getting the relay from Jaycar for $6.50. I'm sure everyone has seen fog lights on a bull bar but here is a pic of the end result.



I also wanted to get a set of Lightforce XGT lights but they don't fit on the BT50 bar so the salesman talked me into looking at the new Genesis lights. Turns out they fit so I decided to treat myself to a little present. Thank God I don't have a missus or I would have been in trouble.

I never even thought about OL. TJM did a fairly good deal and gave me the torch. Bloody good torch to. Handy to keep in the glove box. I'll have to keep OL in mind next time.

Since I have no money to spend this weekend it's prompted me to get in and mount my lights properly.

I had to make up a bracket to mount the third light because the winch mount is welded under where I first wanted to drill a hole. All it is, is a piece of 67x8 FMS with a counter sunk hole in the middle for a counter sunk bolt and the 2 outer holes are so the outer lights can mount as normal, holding the bracket.





And this is how it looks. Just have to modify the wiring harness so the third light works.







If I don't get payed tonight I will think about installing my UHF tomorrow if the cricket finishes early.

yeh it has and I'm really impressed with the the spread beam light. I only pointed the lights down the street last night and I was pretty happy with the amount of light. Should be good once I have them all wired and pointing it the right direction.
